Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. The N.C. State Highway Patrol, Johnston County Sheriff's Office, and Raleigh Police Department were all involved in a car chase that ended in a crash on Interstate-40. The suspect vehicle began to drive the wrong way on the exit ramp at Rock Quarry Road, and a trooper positioned their vehicle in its path to stop the driver from entering I-40 heading into oncoming traffic. The trooper was checked by EMS but suffered no injuries, and the trooper's vehicle had to be towed from the scene. (WNCT9)
  2. Raleigh police arrested one man on Thursday after he attacked a security guard with a machete. The incident took place at Advance Community Health after Johnny Carl Avery was asked to leave. The health center was closed when Avery tried to enter, and he fled the scene after the attack. Avery was arrested a couple hours later and the guard was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the blow to his arm. (WRAL)
  3. A new development is slated for Glenwood South in Raleigh. The development will be similar to Boxyard RTP in that it will utilize shipping containers to house bars, restaurants, and shops. Developers are looking to bring the concept to the land at the corner of Peace Street and Glenwood Avenue where the old gas station and car inspection station exists. "The Yard" would be home to a bar, kitchen, and 20 shipping containers. (abc11)
  4. The nearly $200 million sports complex that had plans approved in 2020, is looking for land to occupy. Plans were originally set to take place at the Cary Towne Center site, until Epic Games bought the mall for its new headquarters. Now the town is working with owners of South Hills Mall to develop the indoor sports facility that would hold 100,000 square feet of competition space, and a 4,000 seat arena. The new owners recently signed a letter of agreement to work with the town to include the sports complex in redevelopment. (WRAL)
  5. The Southern Ideal Home Show has returned to Raleigh after being put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As housing prices remain high and interest rates are climbing, more people are looking at their current home as a template for repairs and upgrades. The show is ready to provide inspiration and tips for those who are looking to get deals, talk to contractors, or find inspiration. (abc11)
