Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Raleigh police are searching for two suspects in a smash and grab robbery at a Triangle Town Center jewelry store. Just before 11 a.m., the suspects broke display cases at Regent Jewelers and made off with the jewelry. Officers are reviewing surveillance video from other retailers to aid in the investigation. (CBS17)
  2. Funding for the Raleigh walking and biking trails has been officially secured after a ceremony at Chavis Memorial Park on Monday. Congresswoman Deborah Ross requested the $3 million in federal funding for the South Park Heritage Walk and the Chavis-Dix Strollway. City leaders expect the project to take two years to finish. (CBS17)
  3. Lawmakers are back in Raleigh, and they are finalizing details on a bill that would expand Medicaid coverage in the state. The issue has been discussed for years, and has been a point of contention between Governor Roy Cooper and the legislature. The federal government pays 90% of the costs for states to expand Medicaid, and the ARPA increased the federal share to 95%, which would bring %1.5 billion to North Carolina. (CBS17, HeraldSun)
  4. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has a new flood warning system that will monitor road flooding during big storms. The system has 400 different gauges on rivers and streams that help NCDOT respond more quickly to areas where flood waters threaten bridges, roads, or culverts. (abc11)
  5. A man was taken to the hospital after a diving incident at a Raleigh community pool on Sunday. Just after 6 p.m. the incident was reported at Meredith Townes Pool on Morningside Drive. The man attempted to dive in the shallow end, hitting his head on the bottom of the pool and was taken to a nearby hospital for observation. (CBS17)
