TWDNK Excerpt
An enthralling story of one woman's struggle to rise from the ashes to triumph in the face of adversity.

Revenge isn’t always sweet.
“Gazelle, did you ever love me?” He starts to cry. I feel nothing and sigh.
“Yes, I did.”
“More than life itself?” He’s still crying and I’m again reminded of the song, Cry me a River. I’m waiting to hear the river because what I’m hearing isn’t moving me at all.
“Yes, more than life itself but that time is now over.” The crying stops and Otis tries another tactic.
“I want to see the girls.”
“That’s not possible.”
“Why not?”
“Because they aren’t your kids.”
“They have my name.”
“And you are refusing to support them. You can’t have it both ways.”
“They’re still my kids.”
“Otis, look, I said you can’t so let’s just leave it at that.”
“No, you can’t refuse to let me see them.”
“Yes I can and I have.”
“I’ll come anyway.”
“And get your feelings hurt because I won’t let you in.”
“Then I will call the police because you can’t keep me from my kids.”
“Otis, they don’t want to see you. They saw your internet singles page and you disowned them and me at the same time. They don’t want to see you. You’re refusing to pay support for them and they know it. You lost all rights to be called Daddy a long time ago. So don’t bother coming because they won’t see you. Now, I need to go, I’ve got things to do. Bye, Otis.”
As I hang up the phone, I find I don’t have the stomach for revenge any more. A few months ago, that call would have filled me with delight but now, it’s just not the same. No, actually, I’m not the same.
