Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. On Wednesday night the City of Raleigh began lighting up downtown buildings blue and yellow to show support for the Ukrainian people. (RaleighNC) A Ukrainian family was able to reunite in Raleigh thanks to a North Carolina couple who donated hundreds of thousands of airline miles to help Ukraininas. (Live5News) The Red Cross has announced that Giving Day on March 23, will encourage donors and volunteers to provide day-to-day needs to benefit Ukraine. (CBS17)
  2. Amazon will be closing all 68 of its physical "4-Star" locations. The closure will include the store at Crabtree Valley Mall and means that they will not proceed with the construction of the Durham location. Employees will receive severance or transition to jobs at nearby Amazon locations. (CBS17)
  3. Raleigh Police arrested a man they believe to be connected to a string of 6 robberies that took place in the span of 10 days. Elio Hernandez was charged in the incidents took place from February 23 to March 2. (WRAL) In a separate string of robberies that targeted several Wells Fargo locations, 19-year-old Max Carmichael Mollick was charged. Mollick is the second arrested in the string of robberies that took place on February 18 and February 22. (WRAL)
  4. A Durham man was arrested after officials say he repeatedly harassed and cyberstalked Raleigh city councilman Jonathan Melton. Melton was elected in 2019 and said the situation began around the time of his election. Melton is also the first openly LGBTQ person elected citywide in Raleigh, but officials did not say if that was the reason he was being harassed online. (WRAL)
  5. All briefings have been filed in the lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to overturn the congressional map that was approved by a 3-judge panel in Wake County Superior Court. The Republican-majority panel determined the maps were unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders and approved maps that had been modified by special masters. The federal lawsuit asks justices to intervene and halt the election process. (FOX8)
