Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Kane Realty is sharing its "vision for the future" at North Hills with a discussion of the newest NHX offices and 12-story apartment building. According to founder, John Kane, it is the largest project the company have undertaken. The development is also the largest project in the history of North Hills' transformation. In the area, Kane Realty has already constructed four office towers that are 100% leased by businesses and around 80% occupied by residents. (WRAL) The city is also looking into designs for a Midtown bridge that would help drivers getting from one side of I-440 in North Hills to the other. (CBS17)
  2. Raleigh residents who are uninsured are getting healthcare through a "faith-based" health clinic in the area. NeighborHealth is a private, federally-qualified clinic that offers a variety of health services, even for those who are financially uncertain. NeighborHealth partners with UNC Rex and WakeMed along with other community organizations to provide for patients physical, emotional and spiritual needs. It recently expanded the facility on Blue Ridge Road to now have 16,000 square feet of space and 26 exam rooms. (abc11)
  3. Brentwood Elementary students got to enjoy participating in engineering challenges on Thursday. This week is E-Week for the school and it is a part of the STEM program that works to present science, technology and math in a way that is fun for students. Each grade level was given a different STEM task, including kindergarteners who built boats to carry rubber ducks. (CBS17)
  4. As HBCUs are getting the opportunity to reflect on and highlight their contributions to our city, the two "sister presidents" of SHAW and SAU are discussing the bond between the two universities. Shaw President Paulette Dillard and Saint Augustine President Christine Johnson McPhail describe the schools relationship as a partnership with a combined identity as HBCUs in Raleigh. Of the 400 HBCUs that once existed in America, only 100 remain, including the two in Raleigh. Both universities are looking for new ways to renovate their facilities and boost revenue with ideas for private partnerships. (abc11) The HBCUs of Raleigh also had a hand in the transformative hip-hop culture of the 70s, 80s and 90s. (WRAL)
  5. Three suspects have been arrested after a police chase on Interstate-540 on Thursday morning. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that there were three people in the truck who jumped out of the vehicle after it went off the road and ran off. A fourth passenger was also present, but stayed in the vehicle and is not facing charges at this time. The chase began when a trooper attempted to stop the silver Toyota Tacoma for speeding 110mph in a 70-mph zone. No one was injured as Raleigh police officers and Wake County deputies assisted with the arrests. (abc11)
