Wake County EMS To Hold Conversation On Care Of Diverse Communities

How can Wake County EMS best care for the diverse population it serves? That’s the focus of an open conversation planned for Wednesday, Dec. 4.
“We are here for everyone,” says Dr. Jose Cabanas, Wake County EMS director. “We know it’s essential for everyone to have trust in us when we respond to them in an emergency. We want to hear from the people in our community about how well we’ve earned and kept their trust.”

Residents are invited to join Wake County EMS personnel for a complimentary meal and conversation at 6 p.m. at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 813 Darby St. in Raleigh.
As part of the discussion, Wake County EMS personnel want to know about the experiences residents have had with EMS response and how well their needs are being met by the services provided. Many law enforcement agencies across the nation have held similar programs in order to build better communication between responders and the community, but this is the first of
its kind for EMS in Wake County.
“This is not a reaction to a known problem, but more of a checkup to ensure people are being served well by EMS regardless of who they are or what their background is,” Cabanas said.
Wake County EMS has partnered with St. Ambrose Episcopal Church to hold the event.
“Saint Ambrose is honored to host this event,” the Rev. Jemonde Taylor said. "It continues the 151-year history of the church being a place for the community to gather. I believe EMS care providers have the mission of promoting a healthy community by practicing the science and art of
healing as well as assisting in the prevention of disease and pain. Building trust is essential to live out that mission.”
This meal and program are free and open to the public, but space is limited. Registration is
