Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Wake County students returned to classes after incidents led to lockdowns at six schools in Wake County. School leaders are now looking to find a solution to the increase in local threats, and investigators are trying to figure out who is making the threats. Wake County's board chair and superintendent are figuring out ways to partner with law enforcement and state lawmakers to devise better safety measures and strengthen laws. Parents are also being asked to secure their firearms and talk to their children about the dangers of gun violence. (WRAL)
- Raleigh's Freedom Ride Rescue is now caring for 10 Golden Doodles seized from a backyard breeder in Western North Carolina. Mollie Doll, the Executive Director of Freedom Ride Rescue says that some of the dogs are in bad condition and need a lot of work. Many of them are unsocialized and suffering from health issues. Local groomers, fosters, and animal advocates are helping rehabilitate the dogs, but there is a lot of work before they will be adoptable. (CBS17)
- Police confirmed that one man and one juvenile were taken to the hospital on Friday, following police response to a shots fired call. The call was the first of three incidents investigated by RPD within close proximity. The adult male victim has been identified by police as Jaylen Milbourne. According to police Milbourne and the juvenile were in the crashed vehicle after fleeing the scene when they were struck by gunfire. (CBS17)
- Raleigh has ranked 16th in a list of the best cities to watch the Super Bowl. The analysis looked at five metrics, including pizza accessibility, number of bars and sports bars, number of liquor stores, game day travel safety, and fan enthusiasm. The study included cities with a population of 300,000 or more, and ranked the top 30. (N.J.BET) WRAL has compiled a list of the best places to watch big games.
