Wake County Proclaims Nov. 1 'Capital Area Veterans Stand Down Day'

The Wake County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed Friday, Nov. 1, as Capital Area Veterans Stand Down Day.

“Every American is indebted to our veterans,” said Jessica Holmes, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “Their acts of selfless bravery have made our nation what it is today – and we would not enjoy the freedoms we have today without the sacrifices made by these amazing men and women. Veterans Stand Down Day is one of several ways we show our appreciation and say, ‘Thank you.’”

The Stand Down will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Wilmington Street Center, located at 1420 S. Wilmington St. in Raleigh. All veterans are welcome at this free event. A brief ceremony will kick off the day, beginning at promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Now in its 13th year, the Capital Area Veterans Stand Down connects local veterans with essential services to help them become employed, obtain housing and achieve stability in their lives.

Veterans will be able to access to legal education, mental health and substance abuse counsel, spiritual guidance, employment help and housing assistance. In addition, veterans can use the facility to shower, do laundry, and participate in clothing donations and raffle drawings. A dental clinic and haircuts will also be available for attendees. All services provided are free of charge to veterans.
