Wake County, the Town of Cary and Wake County Public Libraries will celebrate the grand opening of the new Cary Regional Library and 600-space parking deck with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 3. The event will take place at 2 p.m. at Downtown Park, which is located at 319 S. Academy St., adjacent to the new library.
“Since 1960, the library has held a special place in the hearts of Cary residents—and as the town has grown, so has its love for the library,” said Jessica Holmes, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “This brand-new building and increased programming will serve library patrons for years to come. I’m thrilled that Wake County could partner with the Town of Cary on this exciting project.”

The 23,450-square-foot library, located at 315 Kildaire Farm Road, will feature 90,000 books, programming for all ages, 32 public computers and free Wi-Fi. The first floor will house the children’s collection and a large children’s program room, and the second floor will feature the Adult Services collection, a community meeting room and quiet study.
The Town of Cary’s new 600-space parking deck will also be dedicated at the event. The deck will serve people visiting the library, the park, Cary Arts Center, and other downtown businesses.
“The new downtown Cary Library is a stunning setting and inspiring environment for learning and growing, and we are incredibly proud to have it in our community,” said Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht. “On behalf of everyone who calls Cary home, I want to thank the elected officials and staff of Wake County for their hard work, vision and partnership on this amazing space.”
Bring the family to Downtown Park and enjoy a live performance by the Parkside Elementary School Chorus before the event starts. After remarks from county, town and library officials, we’ll head over to the library to officially cut the ribbon and open the doors! The library will be open until 5 p.m.
Parking will be available at the new parking deck. Signs will direct visitors to the event.
Construction on the new library and parking deck began in June 2018. Clearscapes, P.A., is the architectural firm that led the design team, and Balfour Beatty Construction served as the construction manager for the project. The combined construction cost of the library and parking deck is $23.7 million. The library portion of the project is $10.7 million.
