🌱 Wake County's Impacts Linger + Maintaining Raleigh's Identity
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy World Farm Animals Day Raleigh!
As you can probably imagine, much of our news cycle has been dominated with the impacts of Ian on the area. I worked hard to dig up some other information that is worth catching up to keep you in the know, and possibly get your mind off the extensive power outages. Read all about:
- NC redistricting fight headed to SCOTUS
- Fall Family Day at Artspace
- Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week info
But first, today's weather:
Cloudy. High: 66 Low: 52.
Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Saturday gave the area the opportunity to dry out and cleanup efforts got underway. At noon on Saturday, around 42,000 Wake County customers were still without power. Many of the outages were caused by downed trees and damaged utility poles and will take more time to repair. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL) Duke Energy welcomed dozens of out-of-state crews to help repair the damage. (CBS17) Early Saturday morning, President Biden declared a state of emergency for North Carolina. (FOX8) On Friday, parts of Glenwood Avenue were flooded in both directions and "impassible." (CBS17)
- The North Carolina Republican Party filed two motions in Wake County Superior court this week. North Carolina election officials are set to begin processing by-mail ballots, but the GOP is asking the court to block the board from enforcing its prohibition of county election officials scrutinizing signatures on absentee voting documents. This is among many challenges to election laws by members of both major political parties leading up to the November elections. (WRAL)
- As Raleigh continues to grow, many residents voice concerns over the urbanization of our city. RaleighMag asked several individuals who have had their hand in the city's development to weigh in on how to maintain Raleigh's identity. Kristen M. Hess of HH Architecture highlighted the preservation of open space and placemaking. Former Chief Planning Officer for Raleigh, Mitchell Silver, said that to keep our identity, we must cherish our identity as a city blended with nature. (RaleighMag)
- North Carolina's redistricting fight is headed for the United States Supreme Court. In Moore v. Harper, SCOTUS will hear arguments around whether or not the state court had the power to redraw the 2022 congressional map. The outcome of the case could potentially take away the power of state courts to rule on cases involving federal elections. (Spectrum News 1)
- The IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards were held at Duke Energy Performing Arts Center on Thursday night. Nominees and winners were chosen by the professional voting membership of the IBMA. (Bluegrass Today, Bluegrass Today)
