Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. On Sunday, the Raleigh Police Department had WakeMed North on lockdown as they searched for a "suspicious suspect" in the area. The lockdown was lifted around 4:30 p.m. after police said they were no longer searching the area for the suspect. Police have not said if the suspect was armed or in custody, but they did say the suspect was not currently in the hospital. (WRAL)
  2. Across the state, 249 churches have chosen to disaffiliate from the North Carolina United Methodist Conference. Among those are three churches in Raleigh, Asbury Church, Layden Memorial Church, and Holland's Church. The Methodist Book of Discipline addresses LGBTQ+ people, stating that they are "no less than the rest of us, beloved of God, and individuals of sacred worth." Churches that have chosen to disassociate, are concerned that the Book of Discipline will be changed to be more accepting to LGBTQ+ individuals, possibly celebrating same-sex marriage. (CBS17)
  3. A new report by WalletHub ranks 2022's Best & Worst Cities for Singles, and Raleigh ranks as #77. Fayetteville North Carolina actually outranked Raleigh, but other North Carolina cities came in far worse, with Greensboro ranking the overall worst in the country at #182. The study weighed each city's ranking across 36 indicators of 'dating-friendliness.' Some of the factors looked at included the gender balance of singles, the share of the population that is single, prices for things like meals, and the number of dating opportunities and nightlife options. (WAVY)
  4. Raleigh Police are investigating after a man was shot at the North Hills Shopping Center on Sunday night. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A press release said that the threat was isolated with no concern to the general public. The man injured knew the shooter who was detained and questioned but had not been arrested as of Monday morning. (abc11, CBS17 WRAL)
  5. The Town of Garner and Wake County are planning to break ground on a new Public Safety Station today. The construction is estimated to cost $10.2 million and was approved by the Wake County Board of Commissioners after a unanimous vote for the plan by the town council. The facility will be located on Caddy Road and will serve as a co-location for Garner-Fire Rescue, Town of Garner Police, and Wake County EMS. (CBS17) This comes after one suspect has been charged with the death of a gas station employee on November 25. (abc11)
