Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Part of Western Boulevard is still closed following the water-main break that took place last Wednesday. Officials are now estimating that it will reopen on Wednesday. The rainy weather over the weekend has caused continuous delays. Raleigh Water Public Information Officer Ed Buchanan said that crews had to use special equipment for the repair that has also majorly impacted the timeframe. (abc11, CBS17) There was also a road closure around Triangle Town Center on Sunday afternoon after a car wreck. (CBS17)
  2. This year, the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival broke previous attendance records. This year there were more than 216,000 people in attendance. Officials said that along with the new record for attendance, the event had 17 sold-out nights. The festival has been taking place in Cary since 2015 and will return in November. (CBS17)
  3. A Knightdale church came together for the first time after thieves broke in and stole thousands of dollars' worth of equipment. Although keyboards and speakers were stolen days before the congregation gathered to sing and worship in spite of the incident. Representatives from the church say that they have added some security measures including cameras, but they will not allow the break-in to stop them from worshiping. (CBS17)
  4. The interactive dinosaur exhibit Jurassic Quest will be returning to the Raleigh Convention Center this month. Organizers announced on Monday that they would be in Raleigh January 20-22. The event will have "life-like" dinosaurs, dinosaur themed rides, interactive science activities, and more. This is the fourth time Jurassic Quest has come to Raleigh. (WRAL) The Triangle Cultural Art Gallery is also hosting its 4th annual 'Celebrating Culture' art show in Raleigh. The exhibition will be open until January 29th, and showcases a variety of art forms and styles by different artists. (abc11)
  5. As Raleigh grows, locals are adamant about keeping our identity, however 2022 saw some major changes to 8 iconic locations. The Rialto theatre held its last interactive showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, as longtime owner Bill Peebles announced plans to sell the theatre. The iconic classic Arby's sign on Hillsborough Street was dismantled and removed after the land was sold to CityPlat. The demolition of the original Goodnights Comedy Club began in August. Cary Towne Center mall has been demolished to make way for Epic Games' new headquarters. There are also several buildings slated to be torn down to make way for new, including the Seaboard Station, the Fallout Shelter and Flex, the Holiday Inn in downtown Raleigh, and Raleigh's first ever Char-Grill.
