Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Wakefield Elementary, Middle and High Schools were all on a code yellow lockdown for most of the day on Tuesday amid a police investigation. Raleigh Police Department said there was an incident near Wakefield Middle School that may have initiated the lockdown procedures. A code yellow lockdown means that all exterior doors of school buildings are locked, and no one is allowed in or out until police give the all-clear. School officials said classes were functioning normally. The lockdown remained in place until the end of the school day. (WRAL)
- An incident involving two men and a car landed one of those men in critical condition after he was accidentally hit by the car. It happened at the Super 8 Motel on South Saunders Street. Police say the two men were arguing, when one tried to leave in the vehicle. The second man jumped onto the car, and was accidentally run over. Police deemed the crash accidental and will not be filing any charges. (ABC11)
- A Raleigh man has been indicted by the grand jury after police say he set a fire at a Raleigh Walmart around the holidays. The Walmart's household products department on New Bern Avenue was set on fire, causing the store to be evacuated. By the time fire crews arrived, the store's sprinkler system had kicked in containing most of the fire successfully. Dylan Charles Warfield was indicted on Tuesday, and is being held at Wake County Detention Center on $46,000 bond. (CBS17.com)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport has added a 13th airline to its roster. Avelo Airlines will begin flying nonstop to New Haven, Connecticut in May. Flights will operate five days a week at the beginning, and expand to six days a week by mid-June. (WITN)
- In an accelerated appeal, the North Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to hear a photo voter identification lawsuit without waiting for the Court of Appeals to deliberate first. Justices of the court granted a request made by lawyers for minority voters who had successfully sued at the trial-court level. The intermediate-level appeals court arguments will be bypassed. (WBTV)
