• Police: Stolen Gun Recovered During Traffic Stop (jocoreport.com) — Smithfield police say a weekend traffic stop on Outlet Center Drive led to the discovery of a stolen handgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and suspected marijuana. Officers arrested a New York City man, who now faces firearm and drug-related charges and is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center. 
• Johnston County ABC Officers Participate In Statewide Underage Alcohol Crackdown (jocoreport.com) — Johnston County ABC officers based in Smithfield took part in a month-long statewide crackdown on underage alcohol sales and possession during April. Working with agencies across North Carolina, they helped check hundreds of businesses, uncover dozens of alleged sales violations, and issue numerous citations tied to underage drinking and related offenses.
• Artists invited to enter America250 exhibition at JCC (johnstoniannews.com) — Local artists in and around Smithfield are invited to enter a juried America250 art and photography exhibition at Johnston Community College’s Tart Building on June 27. Adults 18 and older can submit up to two original works reflecting everyday life in Johnston County, with cash prizes up to $300 and entry forms due by June 15.
