Fifteen new firefighters staff the renovated house-turned-station, which includes living quarters and an apparatus bay until a permanent facility can be funded.
   

• Woman at gas pump sticks hose through truck window, douses driver, NC sheriff says (charlotteobserver.com) — A dispute at the Sharon Express on Island Ford Road in Statesville led to assault and property damage charges after a woman allegedly sprayed gasoline into a truck and onto its driver. Deputies say the Statesville suspect was later found jailed in Alexander County on unrelated charges and then served warrants in the June 14 case.
   

• Defendants convicted of tax return fraud (valawyersweekly.com) — A federal appeals court has upheld the convictions of three defendants involved in a tax-return fraud scheme tied to clients in the Western District of North Carolina, where the case was tried in Statesville. Judges rejected challenges over prosecutorial authority, venue, evidence, and jury instructions, affirming that fabricated deductions made the returns criminally false.
