Statesville City Council scraps plan to relocate Bethlehem Road (iredellfreenews.com) ā Statesville City Council has officially canceled the long-planned relocation of Bethlehem Road near Statesville Regional Airport, sending the previously allocated funds back to the cityās General Fund. Rising land and construction costs, plus right-of-way problems, drove the decision, though airport leaders may still seek outside funding and plan for a future road to support airport growth and economic development.

Iredell County Republican Party files lawsuit to force School Board to appoint GOP nominee to vacant seat (iredellfreenews.com) ā A legal fight over who fills a vacant Iredell-Statesville Schools Board seat could shape how Statesville families are represented in District 2. County Republicans have sued to force the board to appoint their nominee, Statesville Christian School teacher Matthew Youngblood, after his appointment twice failed on 3-3 votes. The case now heads to Iredell County Superior Court for a judgeās decision.

Here's the latest on Statesville's police department expansion, new parking deck (qcnews.com) ā Statesvilleās new police headquarters expansion and six-level parking garage are moving ahead on schedule at Tradd and East Front streets, with garage completion still expected in July. Crews have finished most parking striping, installed exterior walls, and are progressing on HVAC and electrical work, while the new police call center should be finished within the next two weeks.

Statesville man sentenced after pleading guilty to trafficking cocaine (qcnews.com) ā A man from Statesville has been sentenced to seven to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking and possessing a large amount of cocaine found during a 2022 traffic stop on I-40 in Catawba County. Investigators had him under surveillance and say a K9 alerted to drugs in his vehicle before officers seized a box of cocaine from the trunk.

5. Jury finds Iredell County wrestling coach not guilty in student abuse incident (qcnews.com) ā From a Statesville courtroom, a jury has cleared a former Lake Norman High School wrestling coach of misdemeanor assault and child abuse charges tied to an alleged incident with a student. The coach, arrested last November after a reported fight at the Mooresville school, had been suspended from teaching and coaching during the investigation. The not-guilty verdict ends the case but not community interest.
