1. Iredell Schools Seek $3 Million In Lottery Funds For Stadium (whky.com) — Iredell County commissioners will soon decide whether to use $3 million in lottery proceeds for major upgrades to South Iredell High School’s stadium, including turf, a new track, lighting, and safer bleachers. The funding request will be presented October 6 at the commissioners’ meeting on Bristol Drive in Statesville, and remaining costs would come from school capital funds.

2. Beverly Heights and Western Heights small area plan hearing (greensboro.com) — Statesville residents have a chance Monday, October 5, to weigh in on a new small area plan for the Beverly Heights and Western Heights neighborhoods at a 6 p.m. public hearing at City Hall. The draft plan outlines future land use, transportation, pedestrian improvements, parks, and neighborhood-scale development, and can be reviewed on the city’s website or in print at City Hall beforehand.

3. Multiple students sick from cookies brought to East Iredell Middle School: Sheriff (qcnews.com) — Several East Iredell Middle School students near Statesville became sick with headaches and vomiting after eating homemade cookies another student brought to school, prompting EMS and sheriff’s deputies to respond. All affected students were evaluated, none had life-threatening reactions, and the district is urging parents to remind children not to eat food that doesn’t come from home or the cafeteria.

4. Iredell Sheriff's Report Shows Decline In Index Crime Rate (whky.com) — A new report from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, released in Statesville, shows the county’s overall index crime rate has dropped about 57% over the past decade, driven mostly by fewer property crimes. From 2023 to 2024 alone, the index rate fell 18%, though violent crime stayed roughly flat, giving Statesville-area residents a broader picture of long-term safety trends.
