3. Remembering a Wilmington ship's work in New York following 9/11 (starnewsonline.com subscription) — Wilmington readers are reminded how the Coast Guard cutter Diligence, homeported downtown, was quickly deployed after 9/11 to help secure New York Harbor. Archival photos show local crew members on patrol, boarding ships, and eventually returning to Wilmington after nearly two months of heightened security duty along the New York and New Jersey coasts.
4. Short film shot in Wilmington highlights boat rescue efforts during 9/11 (wwaytv3.com) — A new short film about 9/11's massive boatlift evacuation was recently shot along the Wilmington Riverwalk, using the Cape Fear River as a stand-in for Manhattan's Hudson.
