Retired NYPD officers join CFCC 9/11 remembrance (wwaytv3.com) — Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington marked 9/11 with a solemn ceremony featuring retired NYPD officers who now live in the area, local fire cadets, and regional public safety agencies. Organizers say firsthand stories from former New York officers help younger students, many born after 2001, understand the sacrifices of first responders and the importance of remembering that day.
   

2. Hoggard rolls past Panther Creek, 40-7 (wwaytv3.com) — Hoggard High fans in Wilmington saw their team bounce back in a big way Friday night, as the Vikings dominated Panther Creek 40-7 at home to move to 3-1. Senior quarterback Matthew Boring and standout receiver Desyn Durand led an explosive offense, with sophomore back Judah Gillespie punching in multiple scores to put the game out of reach early.
   

3. Remembering a Wilmington ship's work in New York following 9/11 (starnewsonline.com subscription) — Wilmington readers are reminded how the Coast Guard cutter Diligence, homeported downtown, was quickly deployed after 9/11 to help secure New York Harbor. Archival photos show local crew members on patrol, boarding ships, and eventually returning to Wilmington after nearly two months of heightened security duty along the New York and New Jersey coasts.
   

4. Short film shot in Wilmington highlights boat rescue efforts during 9/11 (wwaytv3.com) — A new short film about 9/11's massive boatlift evacuation was recently shot along the Wilmington Riverwalk, using the Cape Fear River as a stand-in for Manhattan's Hudson. Producer Suzanne Delaurentiis, who has ties to Wilmington's film history, says the project honors lesser-known maritime rescuers and will stream on the Pure Flix Family and Faith platform.
   

5. Wilmington woman recalls surviving 9/11 attack at the Pentagon (wect.com) — A Wilmington woman who worked in the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, is sharing how she survived the attack and returned to work almost immediately afterward. She recalls the explosion, the chaos in her destroyed office, and the long hours that followed, and says she now feels a responsibility to help others remember how that day reshaped her outlook on life.
