📰 News we're reading

1. Fargo Public Schools scales back gifted services for youngest learners, parents push back (valleynewslive.com) — Fargo Public Schools is scaling back informal gifted services for first-graders and limiting them for second-graders this year, while keeping formal Gifted and Talented classes for grades 3–5. District leaders cite budget pressures and a push for equitable access, but several Fargo parents worry younger advanced learners will lose crucial early support and are already seeing disengagement at home.

2. NDSU Extension to Offer Education and Exhibits at Big Iron (morningagclips.com) — NDSU Extension will bring hands-on safety demos, stress resources, weed ID help, and data center information to the Big Iron Farm and Construction Show in West Fargo Sept. 15–17. Fargo-area residents can stop by the Hartl Ag Building exhibits to test grain entrapment rescue concepts, talk with specialists about farm stress, and learn about statewide data center projects and leadership programs.

3. NABC Donates Recycled Ride to North Dakota U.S. Army Veteran (bodyshopbusiness.com) — A U.S. Army veteran from West Fargo received a refurbished 2022 Honda Pilot through the NABC Recycled Rides program, helping him transport his disabled daughter to frequent medical appointments. The vehicle was donated by Farmers Insurance and rebuilt by ABRA Auto Body in Moorhead, with support from several regional partners including Fargo Bumper and Cass County Veterans Services.

4. Prosecutors oppose D'Angelo Hunt's request for separate trials, reveal burned phone matching victim's (valleynewslive.com) — A high-profile federal murder case centered in Fargo is moving toward trial as prosecutors oppose defendant D'Angelo Hunt's request to split charges involving his brother and a missing woman into separate proceedings. New filings describe burned phone remains, bloodstained carpet, and overlapping crime scenes at a rural North Dakota property, which the government argues tie both deaths together. Hunt remains presumed innocent while a November trial date approaches.

5. Fargo Frostbite plans to bring semi-pro football back to community (inforum.com) — Semi-pro football could return to Fargo in 2027 as local founder Tim Devaney works to launch the new Fargo Frostbite, an adult developmental team. The group is still lining up coaches, players, and a stadium, with two rounds of open tryouts expected in October and December for anyone from recent grads to long-retired players.
