• America 250: This Akron worker started first sit-down strike (kentucky.com) — Akron's pivotal role in America's labor movement is spotlighted through Rex Murray's 1934 sit‑down strike at General Tire, which helped reshape unions nationwide. • Akron ranks 7th in Ohio for scam reports in July (akronreporter.com) — Akron residents reported 14 scams to the Better Business Bureau in July, ranking the city seventh in Ohio but down from 25 reports in June. Reported losses totaled about $1,700, with the biggest hit coming from a debt-collection scam demanding $1,500. Locals are urged to use BBB Scam Tracker to research suspicious contacts and share experiences.
   

• US Attorney's Office and US Marshals Service announce more than 600 arrests in northern Ohio violent crime crackdown (highlandcountypress.com) — Akron was one of eight northern Ohio cities targeted in Operation Northern Shield, a multi-agency crackdown that led to more than 600 arrests and nearly 200 seized firearms this summer. With Akron's Police Department and U.S. Marshals task force participating, officials say the coordinated effort focused on violent fugitives and serious drug and weapons offenses across the region.
