📰 News we're reading

• APS sporting event rules stir debate over safety and community access (news5cleveland.com) — If you're heading to an Akron Public Schools football game, be ready for clear-bag rules, no entry after halftime, and a requirement that students under 18 attend with a parent or guardian unless with a team. District leaders say the long‑standing and newer rules aim to boost safety, while some families and an attorney argue they unfairly limit community access.

• Coventry staff recognized for service to the district (akron.com) — Coventry-area families just south of Akron may want to know that Coventry Local Schools recently honored long-serving staff and approved key agreements for technology, special education, and a school resource officer. The board also set bus routes, course offerings, and continued the districtwide breakfast program for 2026-27, with its next public meeting on Sept. 16 at Coventry High School.

• Akron Zoo's elderly porcupine dies (akron.com) — Akron Zoo is mourning Forest, its 13‑year‑old North American porcupine and longtime animal ambassador, who recently died from acute intestinal disease. Forest spent most of his life in Akron, visiting schools, libraries, and zoo programs, and staff say his engaging personality helped countless local families connect with wildlife and conservation.
