Avon, Avon Lake Schools Rank Among Top 50 Districts In Ohio

AVON LAKE, OH — The Avon Lake Schools are the best in Lorain County, narrowly beating out neighboring Avon Schools, according to a new ranking from Niche.com. The website also puts both districts among the top 50 school systems in Ohio.

The 2019 rankings released this month rank elementary, middle and high schools as well as school districts. Solon Schools were rated as the best in Ohio and second best in the nation, overall.

The Avon Lake Schools were No. 26 in Ohio and No. 1 in Lorain County. Avon Schools were No. 2 in Lorain County and No. 34 in Ohio.

The Avon Lake Schools were also rated in the top 10 for best schools for Ohio athletes (No. 7 overall) and safest Ohio schools (No. 9 overall).

To arrive at these rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology here.)

Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school district. The overall scores are again standardized and some districts are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn't enough data. School districts are then ranked numerically and assigned grades.
