Long-time Avon Lake Church Becomes Anchor Church

This January, Calvary Baptist Church became Anchor Church. Preparations have been underway since the members of Calvary voted to rename the church a year ago. The transition to Anchor Church includes a new logo, website, lobby redesign, and new signage. “An anchor is stable and secure, symbolizing the hope we have in Christ,” explained Pastor David Skelton.

Calvary Baptist organized in 1956 as Avon Lake experienced a population boom. The church met at Erieview Elementary School until a building was constructed on Electric Boulevard in 1963. Later, Calvary added classrooms and a new worship center. The church has grown to two contemporary Sunday services, multiple Bible studies, small groups, year-round children’s programs, youth, and Celebrate Recovery.

“We are excited about what God’s doing here in Avon Lake, and we’re glad to be a part of it,” stated Associate Pastor Mark Butler.
