AVON, OH — This weekend, a new business will open in Avon. The company, called Code Ninjas, will teach children computer coding and problem solving while building video games.

The Avon location of the franchise will be located at 35650 Detroit Road, Suite 102. The store is being opened by native Northeast Ohioan Rob Bumm.

“When many people hear the word ‘coding’ they might start to nod off,” said Bumm.“At Code Ninjas, we are making coding fun and exciting by combining a game-based curriculum with the belt ranking system like a traditional karate class. This allows parents to see what their kids are learning as they progress through the different belts, while the kids will be able to apply the skills learned here for the rest of their lives.”

Bumm has a 13-year-old son that, like many teenage boys, loves video games. Bumm also has a 17-year-old daughter that is interested in early childhood education. The two children helped connect Bumm to Code Ninjas, making the business a "family adventure."

The Avon Code Ninjas will offer after-school activities for children, while teaching them a valuable skill that could serve them for life, Bumm said. The program will be open to children ages 7 to 14.

Code Ninjas is a nationwide franchise that was launched by CEO David Graham in 2016. Graham was hoping to meet an unmet demand for coding classes for children.

“Parents want their children to learn the critical skills that they’ll need in the future, but it also has to be fun for kids. Code Ninjas has found that sweet spot where kids have fun and parents see results, and we’re truly excited to bring our unique concept to Avon and surrounding communities,” said Graham.
