Possible Heroin Overdose In Avon Lake
Police were called to Canterbury Road for reports of a man possibly overdosing on the street.

AVON LAKE, OH — A 57-year-old Avon Lake man was arrested during the last week of March after he suffered a suspected overdose on what police believe was heroin. Police have dealt with several heroin-related incidents since the beginning of the year.
This incident took place at about 3 p.m. on March 26. Police were called to the 32000 block of Canterbury Road when callers reported a possible drug overdose taking place on the street.
Paramedics and police rushed to the scene and found the 57-year-old in the driver's seat of a van parked on Canterbury. The paramedics were able to rouse the man and treat him.

He was later arrested for attempted possession of heroin and possession of drug abuse instruments. His first appearance in court was made this week.
Immediately after the start of the new year, police had to treat a 24-year-old Avon Lake man for drug overdoses twice in seven days, according to police records obtained by Patch. The two overdoses took place Jan. 11 and Jan. 18. A month later, police returned to the home after the 24-year-old's housemate reported finding suspected heroin in the residence.

The city of Avon Lake is taking part in the National Drug Take Back Day initiative on April 28. There is data to suggest that many opioid addictions begin with prescription medications. The drop-off site is at the Avon Lake Police Department, 32855 Walker Rd. Liquid medications will not be accepted at the department.
"We know of many cases where leftover pain pills have led to an opioid addiction," U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said last year in a press release. "Properly disposing of these pills is one important step anyone can take to get involved in turning the tide on the opioid epidemic that has caused so much pain here in Ohio."
