School Bus Safety Concern - Avon Lake School District Action
Pilot Program Tentatively Planned for 2019 with New School Bus That is Fully Equipped with Lap-Shoulder Seat Belts for Children's Safety
The Avon Lake Superintendent, R. Scott and the Avon Lake Board of Education has taken positive step for student safety in school buses by committing to conducting a Pilot Program where at least one new replacement school bus will have 3-point lap shoulder seat belts installed as part of a trial. The final vote by the Board on this Pilot Program will be held in the Spring of 2019 when the next new replacement school buses are ordered. The Board of Education in taking this position has shown understanding, vision and leadership. Furthermore, the Board anticipates that the first bus ordered with seat belts will be used for the trial as a "travel bus" that goes on highways with children for sporting events and field trips.
