  1. Cincinnati City Council member Reggie Harris is working with city administrators and organizations to update language in the municipal code that will cover gender expression and identity and provide greater legal protections and practices. Harris said that Cincinnati has led the way with its nondiscrimination ordinance, but now it's time to update it. "We are updating the definitions listed in our nondiscrimination code to account for what we have learned as best practices over the years," he added. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
  2. During the pandemic, Cincinnati experienced the second-highest homicide rate increase among the nation's 50 biggest US cities, second only to New Orleans. A WalletHub study released yesterday cited 94 killings matching 2021. On Monday Interim Police Chief Teresa Theetge explained her Summer Safety Plan to the Council's Law & Public Safety Committee.   3. Cincinnati police expect to receive $250,000 as part of a plan to stop gun violence this summer. The City Council is expected to approve the funding that would allow officers to work overtime. Interim Chief Teresa Theetge's plans to bring down violence involves an increased presence in uniform officers and using data to drive extra manpower to hotspots. (WCPO)

  • If you like garlic, then the hour drive to Dayton for the Garlic Fest on Saturday, Jul. 23 will be worth it! The festival promises "a stinking good time" with 17 different food vendors offering a variety of meats, treats, and sweets infused with garlic. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
