Cleveland Indians One Step Closer to Sports-pocalypse: World Series Game 1, Cavs Opener Scheduled for Same Night

We don't want to jinx anything, but the Cavaliers open their season Oct. 25. The first game of the World Series is also Oct. 25.

CLEVELAND, OH - We want to be cautious about this. We are a city that no longer believes in curses. Or, at least, we've put all of our curses behind us. Still, we here at Patch don't want to invoke the anger of any possible curse-givers still lingering in the area.

So, we'll say it like this.

The Cleveland Cavaliers open their season on Oct. 25 at Quicken Loans Arena downtown. The game will undoubtedly be sold out as fans will be desperate to see the unfurling of the town's first championship banner since 1964. The city will be electric with anticipation.

Coincidentally, the same night, the first game of the World Series is going to be played. Since the American League won the All-Star Game, Game 1 of the Fall Classic will be held in the AL representative's hometown. That means the game will be played in either Toronto or, maybe, possibly, Cleveland.

For a town that was starving for five decades for sports success, Oct. 25 could be the culmination of Cleveland's redemption tour. It could also be the night the Cavaliers debut their 2015-2016 Championship banner and that's it. We're not predicting one way or the other.

On the other hand, just because Patch isn't making bold predictions about Oct. 25, doesn't mean other fans aren't. The Cleveland Indians Championship Parade Facebook page has now eclipsed 12,000 attendees and 17,000 interested people.

I guess some people like to live dangerously. Roll Tribe.
