Cleveland Indians Take Game 1 of the World Series, Beat Chicago Cubs 6-0
Starting pitcher Corey Kluber struck out 8 hitters in just three innings.
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians have taken a 1-0 lead in the World Series. Not only did they beat the Cubs, they shut them out 6-0. Starter Corey Kluber pitched a masterpiece, setting a postseason record by striking out eight batters in three innings, a feat never before accomplished.
Unfortunately for the Cubs, when Kluber departed from the game, Andrew Miller came in. Miller got into a bit of trouble with Cubs on base but was able to work out of it without giving up any runs. Then Cody Allen closed the door and secured the win.
The offense came in spurts. Franciso Lindor got on base with a single. Wasting no time at all, he stole second and became the Taco Bell "Taco Hero" of the World Series. Thanks to Lindor, everyone can get a free taco at Taco Bell on Nov. 2. After Lindor's free-taco base-running heroics, the Tribe rallied to go ahead 2-0 after Jose Ramirez singled to bring Lindor home. Brandon Guyer then got hit by a pitch, scoring Mike Napoli. Roberto Perez started his campaign to be Mr. October, hitting two home runs — a solo homer in the fourth and another three-run home in the eighth, scoring Guyer and Lonnie Chisenhall.

The city was charged with electric excitement. East Fourth Street was packed, bars and restaurants were overflowing and the RTA Redline was at capacity, which wasn't a surprise as parking was going for $100 in some areas.
Prior to the game, fans massed outside of both Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena. Most were simply basking in the moment, or waiting for the gates to open. A few were hoping to psych up other fans or make a splashy statement.

Across the street, the Tribe’s neighbors were celebrating a championship already earned. The Cleveland Cavaliers raised their 2015-2016 NBA Champions banner to the rafters and doled out rings to last season’s players. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was on hand to personally deliver each of the rings.
The Cavaliers made quick work of the new-look New York Knicks, dispatching them 117-88 and leading for most of the game. In between quarters and during halftime, the Indians game was broadcast on the Jumbotron. Fans frequently broke into cheers as they discovered Kluber mowing down hitters and the lead blossoming over nine innings. Many fans lingered after the Cavs’ win to watch the Tribe finish off the Cubs in Game 1. Those that left onto the street were greeted by the distinct pop of fireworks and the celebratory shouting that filled the fall night.
Game One of the World Series even brought out former presidents. Better luck next time, Teddy!
