Mike Pence Campaigns In Ohio With Jim Renacci On Friday

The vice president will be supporting Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown's likely opponent.

CLEVELAND, OH — Vice President Mike Pence is in campaign mode. With trips to Ohio, Nebraska, Iowa and Kentucky this week, the 58-year-old is trying to bolster the profile of Republican candidates for both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Pence is expected to speak at an event in Cleveland on Friday, and will likely be joined by Rep. Jim Renacci, Senator Sherrod Brown's likely opponent in November, and Rep. Steve Stivers. The trio are set to appear at an "America First" event that will tout President Donald Trump's accomplishments, focusing primarily on the Republican overhaul of the tax code, Politico reports.

Pence has made similar stops in other Midwest states this week. His speeches have focused on the benefits of the tax bill for most Americans, including bonuses and pay raises from companies that now pay less in corporate taxes.

Democrats have argued the bill is really a redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the already-wealthy, leaving most Americans with "crumbs." Pence has called that characterization "out of touch."

Still, Pence is on the campaign trail in an attempt to stem off a possible Democratic wave in November. Without Trump on the ballot, there's a fear the motivated base that buoyed the controversial Republican candidate into the White House, won't show up at the polls.

Pence's Ohio stop is the last on his tour of the Midwest. He was in Iowa and Nebraska on Tuesday and Kentucky on Wednesday. He also made a stop in Michigan last week.
