[LATEST] Ohio State Attack: ISIS Claims Responsibility for Abdul Artan's Actions

Abdul Razak Ali Artan posted to Facebook prior to his attack, denouncing the treatment of Muslims and praising a radical cleric.

COLUMBUS, OH — Radical terrorist group ISIS has claimed responsibility for attacks at Ohio State University on Monday that left 11 people injured. The group said Abdul Razak Ali Artan, an 18-year-old OSU student and Somalia-born refugee, was a "solider of the Islamic State" on its news outlet, Amaq.

Artan drove a car into pedestrians and got out and began attacking people with a butcher's knife before he was shot dead by a campus police officer. Prior to the attack, Artan posted on Facebook, denouncing the treatment of Muslims in America, making reference to lone wolf terror attacks and praising a radical al-Qaida cleric.

In the post, Artan said he had reached a "boiling point" and had grown "sick and tired" of seeing Muslims "killed and tortured," law enforcement officials said. He also called Anwar al-Awlaki a "hero."

Artan wrote that America should stop interfering in the affairs of other countries, particularly the "Muslim Ummah," or community. He then cautioned, "We are not weak. We are not weak. Remember that."

Despite the post, law enforcement officials have continued to say they have not established a motive and have urged everyone to approach the situation with caution.

OSU's student newspaper, the Lantern, profiled Artan Aug. 25. "I wanted to pray in the open, but I was scared with everything going on in the media," he said in the article. "I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be."

He then added: "If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But, I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads so they’re just going to have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed."
