Record-Breaking Cold In Northern OH: See How Cold Your Town Got

And there's now a possibility of snow this weekend, according to the latest predictions.

CLEVELAND — A record-breaking cold developed in northern Ohio on Saturday morning.

Subzero or nearly subzero temperatures were recorded in Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Mansfield and Erie, according to the National Weather Service. Freezing wind chills will continue through the early afternoon, according to forecasts.

In fact, crews recorded a temperature of -9 degrees this morning in Youngstown — a new all-time cold record for the area, the National Weather Service said. Here's how cold other parts of the state got:

  • Ashtabula — -11 degrees
  • Cleveland — -3 degrees
  • Akron-Canton — 2 degrees
  • Erie — 3 degrees
  • Mansfield — 3 degrees
  • Toledo — 9 degrees

Saturday should see a warm-up for much of northern Ohio, with a high in the mid-20s and a low in the high teens. However, as temperatures climb, the possibility of snow increases in northern Ohio.

"A clipper system will bring widespread light snow for northern Ohio into northwest Pennsylvania late Saturday night into Sunday. A couple of inches of snowfall will be possible for much of the area. Several inches of snowfall will be possible for the snowbelt," the National Weather Service warned.

According to forecasts, 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible Sunday, with another 1 to 3 inches possible on Monday.
