CLEVELAND — Progressive Field will look a little different in coming months.

POWERHOME Soloar will be installing solar panels at the stadium soon, the company announced this week. The solar array will be located on the roof behind home plate and will reduce energy costs for the stadium.

“The Cleveland Indians organization is committed to helping preserve the environment by using advanced energy and green options,” said Jerry Crabb, Indians senior director of ballpark operations. “We understand the responsibility of being environmentally conscious within the walls of Progressive Field and beyond. Using sustainable technologies is not only good for the community, but good for baseball.”

POWERHOME is currently working with both Major League Baseball and the National Football League to add solar panels, where possible, to existing stadiums. The Tribe are the first MLB franchise to move forward with installation of an array. The team said the solar panels will help the team meet and expand its sustainability initiatives.

“Progressive Field is the first Major League Baseball (MLB) facility to utilize POWERHOME Solar to help meet sustainability goals,” said Jayson Waller, founder and CEO of POWERHOME Solar. “Large commercial sites like this help us educate consumers about the simplicity and benefits of renewable energy. We hope to encourage thousands of Indians fans to consider renewable energy and think more about the environment.”
