Coronavirus In The Heights: Dobama, Nighttown Impacted

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” As schools prepare for a mandatory three-week shutdown, other Northeast Ohio institutions are canceling programs and events due to concern over the spread of new coronavirus, COVID-19. Several Cleveland Heights institutions are canceling or postponing programs due to concern over the virus.

Nighttown is closing after this week, the restaurant and music venue announced. All concerts will be postponed and rescheduled later, according to owner Brendan Ring. He said he had a "moral obligation" to close.

Dobama Theatre has canceled this week's performances of "Dance Nation." Decisions on future performances will be made on a week-to-week basis as the theater's board of directors and administrative staff meet.

"We took this action in order to be proactive and out of an abundance of caution. Consequently, Gov. [Mike] DeWine’s order that all theater gatherings of more than 100 people must be suspended confirmed that our decision was the correct one," Dobama leaders said in a statement.

Heights Arts have suspended all March programming. The Red Champion Gallery concert on March 14 and the Steve Calhoun opening reception on March 26 will be postponed. Officials said they hope to reschedule these events for a later date.

The gallery's new public hours, starting March 16, are as follows:

Monday: 3:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Tuesday-Thursday: Closed

Friday: 3:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Saturday: 12:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The Heights Community Center will be closed to the public. The facility's closing will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.

The Heights Libraries will remain open for the foreseeable future, but all programs and meeting reservations will be canceled until at least April 21.
