Chief RaShall Brackney’s push to hire a dedicated grant writer is already paying off, bringing in outside funding to expand technology, training, and resources without relying solely on local tax dollars.
   

• Heathers: The Musical (Aug. 7-9, 2026) (thetelegramnews.com) — Downtown Jackson’s Markay Cultural Arts Center will host the Apple City Players’ production of “Heathers: The Musical” this Friday through Sunday, giving local theater fans a dark, edgy option close to home. With evening shows Friday and Saturday and a Sunday matinee, the R-rated production tackles mature themes, violence, and suicide, and is recommended only for ages 17 and up. Tickets are slightly cheaper if purchased in advance online.
   

• Ironladies defeat Miami Trace, McClain in tri-match (recordherald.com) — Jackson’s Ironladies golf team protected home turf at Franklin Valley Golf Club, edging Miami Trace and McClain with a team score of 221. Ava Jenkins led Jackson with a medalist round of 45, backed by steady scores from teammates that secured the tri-match win on Wednesday.
