• Haysi's mayor arrested following indictments on 8 fraud and embezzlement charges (cardinalnews.org) — Haysi’s mayor, Larry D. Yates, has been indicted on eight felony and two misdemeanor fraud and embezzlement-related charges and was arrested Thursday, with an initial court appearance set for Tuesday in Dickenson County. Town council leaders say the news is difficult for the community but stress they’ve been tightening financial safeguards and will keep working to protect public funds and accountability in Haysi’s government.
