• New Sister Circles starting in Kent, Ravenna, Windham (record-courier.com) — Free Sister Circles are launching this fall in Kent, Ravenna and Windham to support Black pregnant women and their babies, addressing high maternal and infant mortality rates. Small, doula-led groups will meet weekly for 12 weeks, offering emotional support, childcare, food, books, diapers and gift cards, with easy registration by phone, text or online for Portage County families.
   

• Amid nationwide nursing staffing shortage, Kent State nursing program hits highest enrollment in a decade (news5cleveland.com) — Kent State University's College of Nursing in Kent has reached its highest undergraduate enrollment in a decade, with more than 1,600 students preparing to enter a strained healthcare workforce. Officials describe how expanded admissions pathways and new VR and AI training tools are helping grow the program, which now attracts the university's most popular major and its largest freshman nursing class since 2017.
   

• Morgan, VanDamme win Portage County High School Golf Championships (record-courier.com) — High school golfers from across Portage County converged in Kent for the inaugural county championships, where Roosevelt freshman Andrew VanDamme and Southeast junior Samantha Morgan captured individual titles. Roosevelt's boys and girls teams both claimed team championships, thanks to deep lineups that placed multiple Rough Riders near the top of the leaderboards in a tightly contested day of play.
