Today's riddle: Is there anybody completely useless? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Ohio bill: FirstEnergy customers would be reimbursed after prolonged power outages (fox8.com) — After repeated summer power outages in Lakewood, two state representatives have proposed the Ohio Power Outage Relief Act to reimburse customers for spoiled food, medicine, and lost service. The bill would require utilities like FirstEnergy to credit bills after prolonged outages without passing costs back to customers, aiming to hold companies more accountable for reliability in neighborhoods like yours.
2. LAKEWOOD: Spooky Pooch Parade returns to familiar Lakewood haunts (westlifenews.com) — Lakewood's 19th annual Spooky Pooch Parade returns October 10 at Madison Park, with costumed dogs marching through the Birdtown neighborhood and prizes in several fun categories. Residents can attend free as spectators, while dog registrations cost slightly less in advance, and proceeds support local nonprofit LakewoodAlive's community work.
3. Spanish Love Songs Book a UK and EU Tour - New Album Coming Soon (ghostcultmag.com) — Spanish Love Songs are bringing their Live Independent Tour to Mahall's in Lakewood on November 12, giving local fans a chance to see the band in an intimate venue. The show is part of a broader U.S. run and follows the release of their new album, with some lower-priced "Cost of Living" tickets available through presale.
4. Cleveland playwright takes aim at Clinic, UH in world premiere comedy 'World Class Care' (cleveland.com) — A new comedy skewering Cleveland's big hospital systems is opening at Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, with performances running Oct. 2 through Nov. 1. Local playwright Eric Coble's "World Class Care" uses humor to explore neighborhood change, institutional growth, and what it means to hold onto home, with a fully Cleveland-based creative team and plenty of familiar local references.
5. The doors that closed on Studio West 117 will open to a new space centering connection and well-being (wkyc.com) — A major LGBTQ+ venue on the Cleveland–Lakewood border, the former Studio West 117 Fieldhouse, has been bought by Central Outreach Wellness Center and will be reborn as a community hub for entertainment, health, and connection. Plans call for drag shows, dining, and ballroom events alongside wellness screenings and support services, with organizers seeking community input and promising an inclusive, affordable space for the full spectrum of queer Lakewood residents.
