How Lakewood's New Mayor Spent Her First Days In Office
Meghan George was sworn-in on Jan. 1, but her work as mayor started in November 2019.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The dawn of the new year brought a new mayor to Lakewood. Meghan George was sworn-in on Jan. 1 in a public ceremony at Lakewood City Hall. During the event, George thanked the voters and said she was honored by their faith in her.
George's work as mayor actually began shortly after her election in November 2019. "I established a transition team made up of regional and Lakewood community members to assist in this [transition] process," she told Patch. "I also sat down with leaders throughout the region, including Mayor Mike Summers, to discuss the transition."
That transition meant introducing two possible new directors for major municipal departments. On Monday night, Lakewood City Council considered the appointment of new law director Brian Corrigan and new public works director Roman Ducu.

Ducu has been a Lakewood employee since 1991 and Corrigan was law director under George's father, Tom, who was also mayor.
Once she was in office, George met with all of her directors to discuss the current status of city projects and what each department was doing.

"It was important to have this scheduled right away so I could make that first day as productive as possible. Additionally, I have begun departmental visits to meet with staff and tour the facilities outside of City Hall. It has been a very productive first few days and I look forward to the hard work ahead," George said.
