To support the fight against diabetes, more than 50 students from the Nexus Academy of Cleveland recently organized their own “Walk to Cure Diabetes.” On May 22nd the students walked nearly 3.5 miles from the blended online/on-site high school on Superior Avenue to Public Square and back to raise money and awareness in the search of a cure for the disease.
In March the students took part in a Diabetes Seminar and everyone decided to organize the walk in memory of Ms. Corbin. The students also donated more than $100 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by purchasing the small cut-out shoe tributes at local businesses.
“Taking the initiative to help others and make the community a better place is an important priority for our school and our students,” said Nexus Academy Principal Brittiany Sanford. “Our faculty and staff are amazed by how the students share in this commitment and sincerely believe that they can make a difference.” In addition to Thursday’s diabetes walk, the students have also supported the Harvest for the Hungry Initiative by hosting food drives and helped provide toys for children in need during the Christmas season.
