2. Saturday shooting in Lorain kills one man, injures another (chroniclet.com) — A pre-dawn shooting at West 15th Street and Reid Avenue in Lorain left 20-year-old Marseilles Mastin dead and a 34-year-old man hospitalized in stable condition. Police say the gunfire followed a street gathering, found multiple shell casings outside, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau.

The report, based on GasBuddy data, notes that international oil tensions and Midwest refinery outages have pushed fuel costs higher across Ohio and the nation.
   

4. Lorain County plants heritage tree to mark America's 250th anniversary (morningjournal.com) — Lorain County leaders recently planted a heritage oak in Elyria's Ely Square as part of Ohio's celebration of America's 250th anniversary, meant to represent all 34 county communities. Officials say the tree and its plaque are intended as a long-lasting symbol of shared local history and unity that future generations can visit and reflect on.
   

5. US Attorney's Office and US Marshals Service announce more than 600 arrests in northern Ohio violent crime crackdown (highlandcountypress.com) — Lorain was one of eight northern Ohio cities targeted in a major summer crime crackdown that led to 619 arrests, hundreds of cleared warrants, and nearly 200 seized firearms. Local officers, including the Lorain Police Department and Lorain-based fugitive task force teams, joined federal and state partners in Operation Northern Shield to pursue suspects wanted for violent crimes and drug offenses.
