Caldwell murder suspect pleads not guilty: Dennis Bright and Samantha Cavalli of WTAP report that Tyler Thompson pleaded not guilty yesterday in a Noble County courtroom. He's accused of shooting and killing his fiancee, 27-year-old Leah Hines last month. Thompson faces aggravated murder, murder, and tampering with evidence charges. He's being held without bond, his trial is set for June.

Congressman Bill Johnson votes against bill considering DC statehood: Yesterday in Washington, Congressman Johnson voted nay on House Resolution 330. This resolution still passed by a narrow margin. This bill provides the consideration of another bill aiming to grant the District of Columbia statehood (among other things). It would be called The State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth. This will likely not pass, given that it lacks the votes in the Senate.
Deadly Gallipolis house fire: Staff writers with WSAZ report that firefighters responded to a house fire in Gallipolis Wednesday afternoon. An elderly man was inside the house at the time and he didn't survive. He wasn't identified, but had reportedly lived alone for some time and was well-liked in the community.

Marietta College basketball star is named first team all-region: This week, Jason Ellis of Marion, OH was named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region first team. He's now eligible for All-American honors. Ellis is Marietta's first, first team honoree since 2017. He was named MVP of the conference tournament and helped the team finish the season with a 12-1 record.
