Congressman Steve Stivers announces resignation: U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers announced yesterday that he's going to be vacating his seat in Congress. His resignation will be effective May 16. He's accepted the position of President and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. This means a hotly contested special election will be coming to Ohio's 15th Congressional District which includes parts of Athens, Morgan, Meigs, and Vinton Counties.

A serious motorcycle crash in Athens: Phyllis Smith of WTAP reports that yesterday evening a 48-year-old man crashed his motorcycle on US 33. They say went off the right side of the road, hit a road sign and flipped. He's been identified as Arnold Secen Junior and he wasn't wearing a helmet. He was airlifted to Grant Hospital in Columbus, his condition isn't known. Authorities don't think drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Red Cross honors a long-serving Belpre volunteer: Mitchell Blahut of WTAP reports that the American Red Cross held a car parade to send off Frank Dotson. He'd been a volunteer with the Red Cross for 27-years and yesterday he was given with the Ruth Thayer for his service. He and his wife plan to relax and enjoy their retirement.
