Marietta historical tidbit of the day:

There were four Mariettans who went on to be governor of Ohio. The first was Return Jonathan Meigs, the second was John Brough, the third was George White. George White was born in 1872 in Upstate New York, Elmira. He graduated from Princeton in 1895 and spent years as a roustabout in the oil fields of Pennsylvania. He came to Marietta in 1902 during the oil boom as an oil producer. He eventually became Vice President of the Peoples Banking and Trust Company. He went on to become an Assemblyman, then Congressman, then chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He served two terms as governor starting in 1931. He died in 1953, at that time he still maintained a home in Marietta.
