Marietta historical tidbit of the day:

Rationing for World War II affected life in Marietta very much. Before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, women here began buying all the silk stockings they could. One person commented that they were acting like silk stockings were one of life's necessities. Sugar rationing affected local restaurants. Rationing of cloth forced skirts to get shorter, to save material. Gasoline rations forced fewer local deliveries. One editorial suggested that gas and rubber shortages would help revive small cities like Marietta because it would be harder to get to larger cities.
