Marietta historical tidbit of the day:

When founded, Marietta would be known as the epitome of a Federalist vision of the United States. Federalism became popular after the American Revolution when folks became disenchanted by the progress of the nation. Federalists like Alexander Hamilton felt that the nation could only be kept prosperous and orderly with a strong federal government. The founders of Marietta shared Hamilton's vision. One of the city's founders, James Varnum, outlined the issues that could stand in the way of this vision locally in a speech on July 4, 1788.
