Marietta Main Street Scam, Belpre Blue Lights, Safety Awards

In today's Marietta Morning we look at a local Facebook scam, a campaign to support our police, and Marietta Public Safety Awards.

Marietta Main Street scam: Marietta Main Street took to Facebook on Saturday regarding what appears to be a scam. They say that a large number of messages and screenshots have been shared with them from a private Facebook profile for Marietta Main Street about some sort of giveaway. The real Marietta Main Street page says they have no affiliation with this and there is no giveaway. They say they don't send friend requests and ask folks not to click links sent to them from this fake Marietta Main Street.

Belpre blue lights: Jenna Pierson of the Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports that Belpre area veterans are trying to light the city blue on Sunday night. Their support the blue campaign is raising money for Belpre police by selling blue light bulbs. These light bulbs are $2 apiece at Howes Grove Park from 9 am to noon. Those wanting to show their support for local law enforcement can still pick one up and have on in time for the Sunday night show of support.

Marietta Public Safety Awards: Marietta City has a number of public safety award recipients this year. Marietta Police Patrolman Robert Ritchie was a 2021 public safety award winner as well as Marietta Fireman Logan Mahaney. The city posted an image of this year's winners with a big thank you attached.

Etta Express somehow loses a game, wins it right back: On Saturday, the Marietta College baseball team played a doubleheader at Heidelberg. They lost the first game 3-0. The second game was scary close, it went to the eleventh inning when the Pioneers hit a series of doubles and went on to win 10-7. The Etta Express is now 26-6 overall. They will be playing another doubleheader soon, weather permitting it could be on Tuesday.

Marietta College women rowers take silver in Philly: On Saturday, the Marietta College women's rowing team competed in the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta. The heavyweight 8+ came in second overall with a time of 7:15.49, they were only beaten by Stockton. They got a varsity pair into the Grand Final, that boat came in sixth.
