Congressman Johnson votes against DC statehood: This week, Congressman Bill Johnson who serves Southeast Ohio voted against making Washington D.C. a state. The measure still passed in the House, and if it is passed into law, will create the 51st state called Washington, Douglass Commonwealth (after Frederick Douglass). However, this is far from a done deal. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona haven't sponsored this bill.

ODOT launches a statewide litter campaign: Hannah Stutler of WTAP reports that the Ohio Department of Transportation has partnered with the Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Natural Resources against litter. The campaign is called "A Little Litter is a Big Problem," and is aimed at shining a light on the problem of litter. This week alone, crews in Washington County have picked up more than 1,000 bags of trash. State officials are asking, so please, don't chuck that McDonald's cup out your window.
