National Police Week: The Washington County Sheriff's Office sent out a reminder yesterday that National Police Week is upon us. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy set May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week that May 15 falls in to be National Police Week. This week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Free physicals for high school kids: Memorial Health Systems is offering free sports physicals today from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade qualify for the physical. The physicals will be offered at the Marietta High School TMI center. They will have to set an appointment.
Belpre 5k for a good cause: Laura Bowen of WTAP reports that a Mother's Day 5k went swimmingly. Yesterday, more than 100 people gathered at Civitan Park for a run hosted by Westbrook Health Services and the River City Runners and Walkers Club. It was cold and rainy, but that didn't stop anyone. Much of the registration fees went to charities that help the intellectually and developmentally challenged.
