Marietta historical tidbit of the day:

World War II changed the lives of black Mariettans as well as white. Blacks were referred to as colored by the local papers and the departure of black soldiers for the war was news. But there were some who felt that black soldiers didn't get as good of a sendoff as the white soldiers. One woman wrote that while we are used to setbacks like this, we are all true Americans who will fight and die for our country. A few weeks later it was reported that eight "Marietta colored boys" were sent off to the service with gift boxes containing Bibles and other items.
